Scales — which one do I need?
How do scales work?
Model horses come in different sizes, called scales. A scale of 1:20 means the model is twenty times smaller than a real horse. Our tack and accessories are made for a specific scale, so a kit only fits horses of that size. Getting this right is the single most important thing before ordering. Our scales explained page shows the sizes side by side.
What scale is my horse?
It depends on the horse, not on the kit:
- Schleich and CollectA standard horses → 1:20
- Breyer Traditional, the big ones at around 30 cm → 1:9
- Breyer Classic and CollectA Deluxe, around 15 cm → 1:12
- Breyer Stablemates, around 9 cm → 1:32 (small selection for now)

How do I measure my horse?
Measure the height at the withers — the top of the shoulder, not the head. Around 16 cm is 1:9, around 11 cm is 1:12, around 8 cm is 1:20. If you're between two, send us a photo of the horse next to a ruler and we'll tell you.
My horse isn't Schleich or Breyer. Will a kit fit?
Probably, as long as the size matches. Scale is about size, not brand. Papo, Bullyland or Mojo horses are usually close to 1:20 and our Schleich kits generally fit. Send us a photo if you'd rather be sure before ordering.
Can I use a 1:20 kit on a Breyer?
No. It would be far too small. A 1:9 Breyer needs 1:9 tack, and the difference is very visible.
What about ponies and foals?
Schleich ponies and foals are smaller than adult horses even at the same scale. We make a blanket kit sized specially for them. For other pieces, tell us which foal you have and we'll advise.
Choosing the right kit
I'm a complete beginner. Where do I start?
A saddle pad or a ribbon halter. Both take under an hour and need nothing but glue. If it's a gift, the Starter Pack has four kits plus the glue and applicator, so there's nothing else to buy.
Do I need to know how to sew?
No. Nothing in our kits is sewn. Everything is assembled with glue.
What do I need on top of the kit?
A model horse in the right scale, craft glue and a pair of scissors. That's all. We sell the glue and a precision applicator if you'd rather have the ones we use ourselves.
What age are the kits for?
From about 7 with an adult nearby for the first one, and from 9 or 10 on their own with the video tutorial. Plenty of our customers are teenagers and adults — the advanced kits stay demanding for years.
Are the tutorials free?
Yes, all of them. Every kit includes a flashcode to its own video, and the full library is public on our YouTube channel. You can watch one before ordering to see exactly what's involved.
Orders and delivery
How long before my order ships?
Orders are prepared within 1 to 2 business days. Customized barns and stables take longer — the delay is written on each product page.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, worldwide. Rates and delivery estimates by destination are in our shipping policy. Small orders of one to three kits can go by tracked letter, which is the cheapest option.
Will I pay customs duties?
Outside the EU, possibly. Import duties and taxes are set by your country and are payable by you on delivery. We have no control over them and cannot estimate them in advance.
Can I return an item?
You have 30 days, and 14 days of unconditional withdrawal within the EU. Items must be unused and in their original packaging. Two exceptions: kits and painted items are made to order and cannot be returned, and gift cards are non-returnable. Full details in our refund policy.
I ordered the wrong scale. What now?
Email us before you open the kit. Kits are made to order and can't normally be returned, but if the packaging is intact we'll do our best to sort it out.
My parcel hasn't arrived. What now?
Wait 48 hours after the shipping email for tracking to update. If it still shows nothing, email anna@mymodelhorse.com with your order number and we'll look into it.
Custom orders
Can you make something that isn't in the shop?
Often, yes. Specific colours, a different scale, a larger quantity for a party or a workshop, a stable built to a theme. Email anna@mymodelhorse.com with what you have in mind and we'll tell you honestly whether it's possible and what it would cost.
Do you do bulk orders for schools, clubs or birthdays?
Yes. See our party favor packs, or write to us for anything larger.

How do I reach you?
